How To Snap Windows Using Keyboard Shortcuts In Windows 10

Snapping in Windows 10 is very different than it was in Windows 8 and 
Windows 7. If you never made the jump to Windows 8, or if you decided to
 revert back to Windows 7 after you realized you didn’t like Windows 8 
one bit, snapping windows in Windows 10 will seem even more different. 
We touched on the feature, and how it works in our <a href="http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/new-features-in-windows-10/">Windows 10 feature</a>
 review. One major change with the Snap feature is that it doesn’t just 
let you snap windows to one half or one quarter of the screen. Instead 
you have many more snapping options and more sizes to snap a window in. 
This guide details them all.

The Many States Of A Snapped Window</h3>
The gallery below shows the many positions you can snap a window 
to. This is just a handful of the positions that Windows 10 supports but
 these will be most familiar to Windows 7 users. It also details a bit 
of the new snapping feature in Windows 10.<br />

Keyboard Shortcuts</h3>
To snap a window to one of the many positions shown above, you will 
still use the Windows key and the arrow keys on your keyboard. The many 
combinations that you can now use to snap windows are illustrated below.
 Bear in mind that Windows 10 Technical preview is buggy (quite buggy) 
and some shortcuts may not respond at all times.<br />

<strong>Windows + Left Arrow and Windows + Right Arrow</strong> will snap windows to the left and right half of the screen respectively.<br />

<strong>Windows + Up and Windows + Down arrow keys</strong> will snap it to the top and bottom half respectively.<br />

With the window snapped to the top half as it is in the image above, hit the <strong>Windows+Left Arrow key+Left Arrow</strong>
 key to snap it to a third  quarter of the screen. If, after snapping 
the window to the top right corner, you hit the Windows+Down Arrow key, 
the window will look like the one in the next screenshot.<br />

With the window snapped to the left half (Windows + left arrow key), 
you can snap the window to a third quarter of the screen by hitting <strong>Windows+Right Arrow key+Right Arrow key</strong> (press the right arrow key twice). If you hit the <strong>Window+Up Arrow key</strong> the window remain this same width but will resize to half in length (see previous screenshot).<br />

You’ve probably noticed that the keyboard shortcut for both the last 
two snap states is the same but it yields different results. The 
difference arises because of the state the window was previously in 
before you typed the shortcut. With the Window snapped to the left half,
 the Windows+Right Arrow key x2, will snap it to the right, occupying a 
third part of the screen. With the window snapped to the top half of the
 screen, this same shortcut will snap it to the top right corner of the 
screen.<br />

<strong>Windows + Right Arrow key + Down Arrow key</strong>, will 
snap it to the bottom right quarter of the screen. In this same state, 
if you hit Windows+Left Arrow key, it will snap to the bottom half. 
Repeat this shortcut to snap it to the left half. You can continue to 
use the shortcut to cycle through the different quadrants of the screen.
 You can repeat it in reverse order by using the <strong>Windows+Left Arrow key</strong> shortcut to cycle through the different positions.<br />

With the Window snapped to the top half of the screen, hit <strong>Windows + Up Arrow key + Up Arrow key</strong> to snap it to the top quarter of the screen. You can then use the <strong>Windows + Down Arrow key</strong> and/or the <strong>Windows + Left Arrow key</strong> to snap a much smaller window size to the left, bottom, and right side of the screen.<br />

You can snap a window in seven different ways in Windows 10. Any 
state or size you can snap it to, to the right, can also be snapped to 
on the left. Likewise, any size the window is snapped to, to the top, it
 can be snapped to the bottom.

Heart failure is one of biggest causes of death and with any health 
risk, it’s never too early to start living and eating better. For a lot 
of people, the kick to start improving their health doesn’t come in 
until a real scare. That said, if you want to know just how much you are
 at risk of hearth failure, <strong>KnowYour4</strong> is a little web 
app that tells you just that. It works in two modes; one relies on 
certain figures taken from a complete blood picture and is more 
accurate, the other relies on data like weight and blood pressure to 
assess your risk and is considerably less accurate than the first. It 
measures your current risk with the average risk rate and tells you 
what’s off.<br />

numbers that can be used to asses your risk of a heart attack. These 
four numbers are your Cholesterol level, your HDL Cholesterol, your 
blood pressure, and the number of cigarettes you smoke in a week. The 
results from these four numbers are more accurate than those generated 
using weight, height etc.<br />

If you don’t have a blood report, click ‘What if I don’t know these 
four numbers’ to use the alternative method and we’re stating it again, 
this second method is far less accurate. You need your height, weight, 
blood pressure, and the number of cigarettes you smoke daily.<br />

With both these methods, you are asked your gender, your ethnicity, 
whether or not you take any blood pressure medication, and if you are 
diabetic or not. Once done, a report is generated based on the data you 
entered.<br />

The results tell you what your current risk  rate is compared to the 
ideal risk rate. It also identifies which factors you need to pay 
attention to, to improve your chances of avoiding heart disease. A graph
 is used to depict your current risk with the benchmark risk rate.<br />

KnowYour4 is an easy way to read your blood test results. Many lab 
reports will usually indicate what the normal levels are against the 
results for your blood but that doesn’t do much in telling you what that
 means in terms of health. If you haven’t seen a doctor in a while, or 
are at a higher risk than normal of heart disease then consider some 
drastic life changes. It goes without saying that this isn’t a tool for 
self-diagnosis but rather risk assessment tool. You should always 
consult a doctor.<br />

3 Ways To Download Subtitles From A YouTube Video

You’d be surprised how useful people find subtitles to be. Many might
 think subtitles at the bottom of the screen can ruin your movie 
watching experience but some people genuinely benefit from them. For 
some it’s a better viewing experience, for non-native speakers of a 
particular language subtitles can serve as a good learning tool, and 
anyone with a hearing impairment can watch movies without any trouble. 
If you’re watching a DVD or a Blu-Ray, getting subtitles is no problem. A
 simple Google search will help you find millions of resources for movie
 subtitles. Now imagine you wanted to download subtitles of an 
instructional YouTube video and you will find you have far fewer 
options. Here are three ways to extract subtitles from a YouTube video.<br />

KeepSubs is the easiest way to get subtitles from a YouTube video. 
All you need is the link, and for the video to have subtitles. Visit the
 app, paste the link to the video in the input area, and click 
‘Download’. Depending on the video, it may have subtitles in more than 
one language. KeepSubs offers to translate them to other languages 
though the translation might not be very accurate. The subtitle file is 
in SRT format so it will be compatible with many popular media players, 
and you will be able to open it with a simple text editor.<br />

Your Browser</h3>
If your browser supports HTML5 videos, then you don’t really need a 
special tool to get subtitles although you might have to spend a little 
time editing the XML file which is the disadvantage that comes with this
 method. Open a YouTube video and let the page load. You don’t need for 
the entire video to finish buffering but make sure you turn on closed 
captions. If you aren’t trying to download the closed captions but 
rather the subtitles included by the uploader, you can skip this step.<br />

With the video open, open the developer tools and go to the Network 
tab. If there is a filter or a find feature, use it to make the job 
easier. Look for the entry that begins with ‘timedtext?’ (see screenshot
 below) and open this file in a new tab. It will open an XML file with 
the subtitles.<br />

Desktop App – Google2SRT</h3>
This is a simple little app that can download subtitles from a 
YouTube video using nothing more than the video’s URL. Select the web 
option and paste the URL in the Google Subtitles fields. Select a 
language and click Go.<br />

Browse Instagram In A Pinterest Like Layout

When Instagram finally rolled out a web interface, the world 
rejoiced. And very soon, it wasn’t a big deal any more, possibly because
 the web interface has always felt like an obligatory sort of product. 
Instagram certainly doesn’t see much purpose behind it because no one is
 going to take and upload photos from their desktop. Instagram has life 
on our phones and is little more than place holder text when it comes to
 the desktop. I’ve personally never used the web interface much simply 
because there isn’t any point but<strong> Pictacular</strong> not only 
makes it infinitely better to view photos on Instagram but also makes it
 so you enjoy browsing photos. It’s a simple little web app that you 
connect your Instagram account to. In turn you can view your photo feed,
 save your hashtag searches, and browse photos in popular categories 
like food, tech, and brands.<br />

<span id="more-174818"></span>Pictacular defaults to your home feed 
and a single column view. Click the grid button at the top to switch to 
the Pinterest-like view. At the top, you have buttons for refreshing 
your feed, viewing all  popular photos, viewing photos nearby (based on 
location data), viewing photos you’ve uploaded, and viewing all photos 
that you’ve favorited. A dedicated button indicates when you have new 
account activity. The left side bar has links to the above feeds as 
well. There is a search bar and you can search by user or hashtag so it 
doesn’t take anything away from the actual Instagram for web experience.<br />

The Discover section expands to reveal popular categories such as 
brands, travel, food, music, tech and you can also suggest a channel of 
your own to appear here.<br />

Browsing photos on Instagram using Pictacular is a better experience 
because you can use the keyboard left and right arrow keys to view the 
next or previous photo in any feed.<br />

Pictacular lets you post comments and favorite photos but there is 
still no way you can upload one. The app has the same coffee brown color
 that you’re familiar with, a simple UI and ads. The one annoying thing 
about the app is that it constantly asks for your email address and 
there is no way to opt out of it. Other than that, it’s one of the most 
useful Instagram browsing apps I have seen to date.<br />

ScreenToGif: Screencast GIF Making Tool With Powerful Editor [Windows]

We did a post a few days back on <a href="http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/4-free-tools-to-create-high-quality-animated-gifs/">tools for creating GIFs</a>. <strong>ScreenToGif</strong>
 is a Windows app that has just caught our attention for all the right 
reasons and warrants its own review. ScreenToGif is a free executable 
utility that records a screencast and saves it as GIF. Unlike <a href="http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/recordit-record-screencasts-and-save-them-as-high-quality-gifs/">Recordit</a>,
 it doesn’t convert from an video format to a GIF, instead you record a 
GIF. You select the frame rate and the recording area, and when you 
click record, it starts to capture the GIF. You can manage the playback 
rate, and choose to loop it and if that isn’t enough, the app also lets 
you add text to your GIF, insert title or image frames, and edit each 
individual frame. It is about as complete as a GIF making app gets and 
it’s fast.<br />

As a GIF maker, ScreenToGif is suited for quick feature demos; it can
 capture the mouse cursor when recording the GIF and also show mouse 
clicks. Launch the app and resize the window so that the area you want 
to record fits inside it. You can set a custom frame size down to the 
pixel using the tools at the bottom of the window. In the box next to 
the stopwatch, you set the frame rate. The higher the frame rate, the 
better the quality of the GIF. Click Record when you’re ready.<br />

You can manage the speed of the GIF, and enable a looped GIF from 
Image settings. In the app’s settings, you can select the output folder,
 enable cursor capturing, and disable the two second countdown that runs
 before recording begins.<br />

When recording, you can pause a GIF, and resume it. Once the GIF has 
been recorded, it opens in an editor where you can watch it 
playback. ScreenToGif lets you add frames both from an image file, or a 
title frame from Options in the top bar. You can add captions, text, 
export frames, and delete everything after or before a certain point in 
the GIF. You also add a color filter to the GIF, pixelate or add a blur 
effect. Each individual frame can be edited. Use the arrows at the 
bottom right of the editor to move to the next or previous frame. Last 
but not least, you also have a free drawing tool in addition to the text
 and frame insertion features.<br />

The GIF quality is excellent to say the least and there are no 
watermarks whatsoever on the final file. ScreenToGif isn’t meant for 
creating reaction GIFs foor witty internet comments. It is one of the 
best tools we’ve found for creating useful GIFs.<br />

3 Tools To Create And Embed Graphs Or Charts Online

  Nothing beats a good graphical representation of data. You can sit 
and write a very well-worded explanation of what a data set represents 
but if you don’t have a nice graph to show the overall t rend, you may 
have written in vain. As far as desktop apps are concerned, you have 
excellent options like  iWork for Mac, Office Libre for Linux, and MS 
Office for Windows. These are all desktop solutions that can be used to 
create great charts for documents and presentations. With online 
publishing, presenting charts is different; you can use a graph created 
and exported from a desktop app, or you can use the many online tools 
that have been created for presenting better graphs to an online 
audience. Here are three free tools that do just that and come with an 
embed feature.<br />

We usually use Google Spreadsheets to edit or create spreadsheets and
 nothing more but it has a chart feature and these charts can be

 options to choose from because you can update a chart any time, and you
 have your Google Drive space to save as many charts and spreadsheets as
 you want. Not many tools come with as powerful features for editing and
 formatting data as Google Docs does so this is possibly the best option
 of the lot.<br />

ChartBlocks</h3>
ChartBlocks is an online app with both free and premium plans which 
means the number of free charts you can create with it are limited. The 
good thing about this app is that it creates some truly gorgeous graphs.
 You have a selection of five common chart types to choose from and 
plenty of templates. You can import your own data and name charts to 
your liking.<br />

The templates make it so you don’t have to worry about which colors 
to use and the app has plenty of sharing options. A chart’s dimensions 
can  be set down to the pixel, you can add more data to it, customize 
the colors if you don’t like a theme, and much more. Where Google 
Spredsheets gives you lots of control over data and how you can 
manipulate it, ChartBlocks gives you lots of control over the chart’s 
appearance.<br />

Datawrapper</h3>
Datawrapper doesn’t even require you sign up to create and publish a 
chart. Its data editor isn’t the most feature rich. You can paste data 
but editing it will more likely than not, mess with the app’s 
understanding of individual data points. You should have your data 
properly formatted before pasting it into the app. With that in mind, 
you might be wondering why this app is listed here.<br />

Datawrapper is a great chart publishing tool if you’re citing a 
study. Not only does it let you customize your data points and how they 
are represented in a chart and supports different chart types, but it 
also lets you embed the source of the data, add a description, and even 
highlight an element on the chart if you want. For any academic 
publishing, this app is pretty good.<br />

favorite show airs, when your favorite band is playing, when a new movie
 is going to be released, and more. Unlike other reminder apps that help
 you be more productive, this app reminds you of the up and coming fun 
things in life.<br />

all your alerts i.e. your timeline, one for adding an alert, and one 
viewing all the alerts you’ve added. The second you go to add your first
 ever alert is when you will really appreciate the app. It already knows
 (and checks for ) the time a TV show is supposed to air. Likewise, it 
checks the release date of movies and concert schedules.It taps into 
information that you need to receive an alert so you don’t have to enter
 it manually. All you do is select and event and when you want to be 
reminded of it. The app will find the event and alert you accordingly.<br />

You can get a push notification as well as a sound alert (both or 
either one) and the alert can be sent to you before or after an event 
occurs. If the events aren’t tempting enough, try setting up an alert 
for rain where you can choose the intensity of the rain that you should 
get an alert for (so you remember to take the sturdier umbrella). Other 
really great alert categories include checking when a website is down, 
when a new restaurant in your area reaches a particular rating, a tweet 
with a particular word in it, and more.<br />

You have to sign up to use the app and if you sign up using your 
Facebook profile, the app becomes more useful for you.  The app has a 
very neat interface, adding events is super easy, and it works really 
well.<br />

Simple arithmetic is easy enough; adding, subtracting, multiplying, 
and division. You can do it on a basic calculator. Add brackets to the 
mix and you have to remember which order to solve them in. It’s still 
do-able with an ordinary calculator. Now think linear equations in one 
unknown variable or fractions. If you haven’t done a lot of maths 
recently, you are probably going to be choppy at some of this. <strong>PhotoMath Solve</strong>
 is a free iOS app that I could’ve benefited from in my school years. 
It’s an app that solves maths problems simply by scanning them with your
 camera and it shows you the individual steps that led to that solution.
 The app isn’t exactly going to help you ace an advanced degree in 
Mathematics but if you have children who get Maths homework, the app can
 be a useful in helping them learn. At present, the app can only scan 
problems that have been printed and not hand written. It can solve basic
 arithmetic operations, fractions, decimals, linear equations in one 
unknown variable, and some logarithmic functions.<br />

Fire the app up and point it to the equation you want to solve. You 
can adjust the focus area. Dots appear over the equation as the app 
reads it and the answer appears on the screen as an overlay. Tap Steps 
to see how the equation was solved. If the app is having trouble reading
 the equation, use the button at the bottom to turn the flash on.<br />

The steps may be illustrated over more than one screen. You can go 
back to see recently solved problems by tapping the menu button at the 
bottom of the camera view. Tap the arrow button to view the previously 
solved equation. All solved problems can be recalled.<br />

We tried the app on simple equations and slightly complex fractions 
involving an underoot operation. In all tests, the app gave us the 
correct results with the only problem being how long it took to read the
 equation. Considering that we were breaking the rules by pointing it at
 an on-screen equation instead of one printed on paper, that is 
something that can be overlooked. The app is great and I really could 
have used it to do my home work back in school.<br />

Download Android App APKs From Google Play Store To PC

Downloading Android apps to PC from Google Play Store has never been 
an easy process. Google has pretty strict policies in place to prevent 
users from downloading apps to any other device or computer that isn’t 
an Android device. Android does allow you to sideload an app’s APK file 
and install from there, but these APKs are usually hosted on third party
 sites. Back in November 2013, <a href="http://www.addictivetips.com/web/apk-downloader/">I reviewed APK Downloader</a>, a web based service that enables you to download apps from Google Play to your computer via pointing its URL. <strong>Raccoon</strong>
 is a similar application that lets you do the same directly from your 
desktop. The Java based application requires your Google Account 
credentials, and allows you to download all non-paid apps to your PC 
without any hassle.<br />

Don’t let Raccoon’s simple interface fool you. The program is fairly 
powerful at what it does. In order to use this program, you will need 
the latest Java Runtime version on your computer which you can download 
from Java’s official site. Afterwards, you can download Raccoon directly
 from the developer’s website. It’s a portable application that’s 
available in JAR and EXE variants.<br />

After launching Raccoon, you’re presented with its barebones window 
which carries three input fields at the center: Username, Password and 
Android ID. You will need a valid Google Play account and (optionally) 
an Android ID to get Raccoon up and running. If you don’t have Android 
ID you can simply leave this field blank and Raccoon will automatically 
create a pseudo ID for you.<br />

After signing in, Raccoon will enable you to download any kind of app
 from Play Store that’s linked to your account region. It doesn’t let 
you download any paid apps though. To get started, the first thing you 
need to do is copy the Play Store link of the app that you wish to 
download. For instance, if you want to download Facebook’s app, open its
 Play Store page, and then copy the link from the URL bar and paste it 
in the Search field of Raccoon. Alternatively, you can also simply type 
Facebook and the tool will display relevant suggestions, although the 
URL option can be much more convenient.<br />

After pertaining results are displayed, Raccoon gives you details 
about the app’s size, published date, price, total installs and rating, 
and allows you to open its Google Play page, view Permissions and/or 
download the APK file.<br />

Raccoon downloads each app to the archive it creates to a folder from
 where you run the app. The archive is basically a download folder that 
can contain multiple versions of downloaded apps and that is able to 
automatically update all contained apps according to the developer.

the archive.<br />

In a nutshell, if you need to download APKS from Google Play to your 
computer, then Raccoon is certainly one of the better options that you

    This year at WWDC, the focus was so heavily on iOS 8 and <a href="http://www.addictivetips.com/mac-os/new-features-in-os-x-yosemite/">OS X Yosemite</a>,

languages, some are faster, some more efficient, some are just cleaner, 
some incredibly simple. Apple is the latest firm to create their own 
programming language after Google’s Go (Golang) and Microsoft’s <a href="http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/view-all-versions-of-net-framework-installed-on-your-system/">.Net Framework</a>. <strong>Swift Programming Language</strong> claims
 to have learned from these languages, while staying true to its 
Objective C predecessor. Apple claim to have created the fastest, most 
robust high-level programming language. Let us explain.

Why do we need programming languages?</h3>

There are quite a few ways to get a device to
 do ‘things’. Any device, from modern wearable gadgets to the 
traditional computers, can be made to do things using either the old 
fashioned way of machine language, writing in raw byte code/assembly 
language, crafting each instruction by hand; <em>or</em> you can rely on
 high-level languages that will help reduce some of the tedium. That’s 
why there is more focus on bringing developer languages as close to 
normal language as possible. We understand that the name of Swift 
attracts more developers than it does onlookers, but we will still 
simplify the explanation to help you understand the technology that will
 control future generations of Apple products.</div>

A quick primer: Electronic devices are 
literally the dumbest things known to mankind, without all the 
programming, they would be reduced to mere ornaments. What gives them 
any real function, is the programming. At a very basic level, 
electronics need to be told, action by action, what they need to do, 
that’s what we used to do with punch cards and later with machine 
language. Then we moved forward in time to develop languages that let us
 communicate with machines in a relatively more natural way (yes, code 
is actually a simpler version of what it could be). We’d write code, it 
would be compiled into something the computer understands and then 
executed. So, to sum up, code-compile-execute.</div>

Why Swift?</h3>

Now, you can imagine the most pertinent 
question being “Why?”. C, the language is from the 70’s, breaking 
considerable new ground at the time, then came its off-shoot , Objective
 C in the 80’s. Apple has been using that platform for development ever 
since. Logic dictates, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, and if it has 
been working for 30 straight years, what could possibly be the problem? 
Well, that. Apple has been using Objective C for decades now. Time for 
something faster, more powerful, easier. Enter Swift.</div>

According to the <a href="https://itun.es/us/jEUH0.l">official ebook</a>
 on Swift (available for free on iTunes) “Swift is a new programming 
language for iOS and OS X apps that builds on the best of C and 
Objective-C, without the constraints of C compatibility. Swift adopts 
safe programming patterns and adds modern features to make programming 
easier, more flexible, and more fun. Swift’s clean slate, backed by the 
mature and much-loved Cocoa and Cocoa Touch frameworks, is an 
opportunity to reimagine how software development works.”</div>

Why is Swift important?</h3>

As much as Apple would like to have you 
believe in their wholehearted innovation, there has been an idea of 
“scripting” language. The traditional code-compile-execute parameters 
requires that you can see your code in action only after it has 
compiled. Compilation shows you exactly what your code is capable of. If
 your code has errors, the compilation will result in erratic behavior 
or crashes. Then the coder’s job will be to track down where the error 
lies, to fix it and then start anew. This process is both arduous and 
time consuming, but it is something the programming world has always 
lived with; it is the way things have always been. Scripting languages 
execute line-by-line so you can see results as you write, eliminating 
the need to review your code for errors at a later time. Making the 
process faster and that much easier.</div>

To date, scripting languages have been 
limited in their abilities. Take Python for example, it is blazing fast,
 but it is also limited to simpler things with limited capabilities. 
Like a Forumla1 car, great for racing, not so much for getting the 
groceries.</div>

If you want to make a game, then Python is 
not your go-to environment. However, Objective-C is (or C++ if you’re on
 Windows). Now, Swift promises the best of both (in fact, many) worlds, 
taking inspiration from <span style="color: black;">Objective-C, Rust, Haskell, Ruby, Python, C#, CLU, and far too many others to list (reference: Swift developer/expert <a href="http://www.nondot.org/sabre/">Chris Lattner</a>).
 Swift claims to keep the good things and lose the bad things from the 
above. In key benchmarks its execution is faster than Python and much 
faster than Objective-C, so it is off to a good start.</span></div>
<h3 style="color: #383838;">
What else does it do?</h3>
<div style="color: #383838;">
Swift also brings a real-time visual 
environment called “playground” where you can see your result compile in
 real time, much like a scripting language. This, based on the design of
 the app, can bring entire processes down to a few minutes, because if 
something goes wrong, you will immediately know what caused it and can 
address it right there. It is the programming equivalent of fixing a 
mistake on a printout vs. fixing a red underlined word as you go along. 
Allowing you to create complex apps more quickly.</div>

It goes a little deeper. For high-level 
languages, you were required to declare and access classes and libraries
 to engage functions, no matter how basic. in C++ You would need 
<iostream.h> and <conio.> in order to use basic input, 
output and datatypes in your code. In Swift, however, none of that is 
necessary. You would not need to declare any libraries, as Swift will 
manage what each datatype and io (input/output) function needs and will 
engage that library itself. So, printing something as simple as “Hello

That is the entirety of the code that needs 
to be compiled. You will also notice that the code does not use the 
dreaded “;” as a universal sign of an end statement.</div>

What are the drawbacks?</h3>

Now, the existence of Swift does not mean the
 instant death of Objective-C and all its ways. Apps can still be 
created using Objective-C and native Objective C users won’t feel 
completely alienated as there are similarities in these environments. Of
 course, since Apple did just spend 4 years working on a new programming
 language, they will be focusing on pushing and supporting Swift, now 
and in the future. Perhaps one day they will erase Objective-C from the 
annals of Apple’s programming languages, but that day isn’t today. 
Though if a new language is out, one that is so easy to learn and is 
that much quicker, then why would anyone stick it out with Objective-C?</div>

There are a few concerns of course, the 
immediate being the upheaval of the industry. Entire careers have been 
forged around teaching people how to make iPhone apps, those careers and
 their students have immediately become obsolete, there will be plenty 
of restructuring on that front. We will also be getting a new crop of 
early adapters to Swift (Flappy Birds already created using Swift), 
which is a good thing as well as bad. Good that new blood will be 
injected into the organism, the bad being that this new blood will be 
inexperienced and <em>will </em>flood the market with poorly made apps.</div>

new hardware announced at the WWDC conference, then we’ll refer you 
again to our earlier statement that hardware alone can’t do anything 
until the software behind it does not work. So this was literally the

Get Android L’s Heads Up Notification On Your Device Now [No Root]

 and its new material design have made quite the impression but unless 
you own a Nexus device and don’t mind your phone flaking on you now and 
then, you aren’t going to be able to check out the new features. This is
 where the amazing and exceptionally active developer community comes 
in. <strong>Heads-up notifications</strong> is a new Android app that 
mimics Android L’s heads up notifications on your device. You can 
interact with the notification just like you can on Android L and the 
app does not require the Xposed framework to be installed nor does it 
call for a rooted device.<br />

You will have to enable the app once it’s been installed and it goes 
without saying that it will be able to access all your notifications. 
Depending on the type of notification you get, you can interact with it.
 You can open an email that you just received or open a file that you’ve
 just downloaded. Like the heads up notifications in Android L, these 
too can be dismissed and they play nice with full screen apps like Cut 
the rope 2.<br />

Apart from imitating the heads up notification, the app also tries 
its hand at notifications on the lock screen though in our tests, the 
results were not satisfactory. The notification appears when you unlock 
your screen and not on the lock screen itself. To enable it, tap the 
more button and go to the app’s settings. Here you’ll also find an 
app filter option that will let you choose which notifications you 
should get a heads up alert for. You can mute the applications you don’t
 want to receive alerts for from a list of installed apps.<br />

Heads-up notifications also lets you set notification priority; you 
can select critical and urgent notifications which will include 
emergency alerts or on-going calls. You can select to receive important 
alerts such as emails and text messages, and you can get normal alerts 
which are notifications from old apps (something of a vague concept 
here). These three types are enabled by default and you can enable two 
more types of alerts; non-important and contextual.<br />

Although the app doesn’t handle lock screen notifications well, it 
does everything else really well. By providing customization options and
 giving the user complete control over which apps to receive heads up 
notifications for, the app has done more than just replicate a feature 
of Android L. Even if you aren’t dying to try Android L and some of its 
new features, this app is worth a try.<br />

desktop, there are some aspects of Windows that seem to remain 
stubbornly resistant to change. Once such area is the Windows 8 & 
8.1 Charms bar, which appears to be uncustomizable besides changing the 
accent color that is used elsewhere on the Start screen and other areas 
of Windows. But with the suitably named <strong>Charms Bar Customizer</strong>, it is now possible to change the icons that appear in the Windows 8.1 Charms bar to something of your choosing.<span id="more-166666"></span>

installation. Simply download it from the link provided at the end of 
this post, extract the contents of the downloaded ZIP file to a folder 
of your choice, and launch the application to start using it. You’ll 
probably need to click ‘Yes’ when a User Account Control dialog pops up.
 You will then be presented with a miniature representation of the 
Charms bar, which can be used to keep track of the changes you make.<br />

The Charms bar has five buttons, each of which has a regular state 
and a hover state, and both these states can be customized with the 
tool, making it a total of ten icons that you can change. Just 
double-click any of the icons, and select an image file that you would 
like to use in place of the default one.<br />

Repeat the process for all of the icons you would like to change, and
 finally click the ‘Change’ button at the bottom-right of the program 
window to apply the changes.<br />

 restart Explorer and put the new icons in place. Should you ever change
 your mind about the changes you have made, just fire up the app again

One thing that is worth mentioning here, based on our testing, is 
that the application does occasionally fall over. Should you find that 
Charms Bar Customizer crashes before Explorer has a chance to restart, 
you can restart it manually as follows:<br />
